Demolition of the existing structure, followed by sheet piling and excavation to prepare the site for new construction, carried out within a secure and tightly constrained urban site.
The challenge
Controlled deconstruction on a major commercial street inside a restricted area near the Presidential Palace, with no room for conventional demolition.
Our approach
A small excavator was craned onto the structure and the building taken down top-down, floor by floor, with material removed continuously by vessel to Thilafushi. Sheet piling and excavation followed to prepare the site.
Outcome
Site cleared, piled and excavated for new construction without incident in a highly sensitive location.
