2015
Where it began
The journey began with a team of just two to three people undertaking small-scale demolition and deconstruction works for residential properties in Malé.
Working primarily with hand tools and limited equipment, the founders built their early experience through hands-on execution in one of the most constrained construction environments in the Maldives.
2016
Building a specialist demolition capability
As projects grew, the founders progressively invested in heavy machinery, vehicles and specialist equipment.
The objective was to offer more than demolition alone: a complete demolition, deconstruction and site-clearance solution, taking a site from an existing structure through to a cleared and construction-ready condition.
This developed into a specialist niche during a period of significant construction activity in Malé.
2016–2017
Building a reputation
The team became increasingly engaged by leading local and international contractors for the early stages of major construction projects, particularly demolition, deconstruction, excavation and site preparation.
Operating in the dense urban environment of Malé required careful planning, technical judgement, logistics management and precise execution.
Through these projects, the founders established a reputation for undertaking difficult and high-risk scopes reliably and safely, becoming a trusted technical resource for contractors facing complex site conditions.
Specialist capability built in one of the most challenging urban construction environments in the Maldives.
2017
Pioneering residential sheet piling in the Maldives
First
Residential building sheet-piling project in the Maldives
Alcazar expanded into sheet piling, shoring and excavation support for technically demanding construction works.
A landmark project was Milenia in Malé, where Alcazar undertook the technical consultancy and execution of the first sheet-piling works for a residential building in the Maldives, enabling the development of a modern basement structure.
This established another specialist capability for the founders in an area of construction that was then new to the Maldives.
2018
The deepest excavation in the Maldives
Deepest
Building excavation and sheet-piling project in the Maldives at the time
Alcazar provided the technical consultancy and execution for the Star Cinema sheet-piling and excavation works in Malé.
The project involved the deepest building excavation and sheet-piling works undertaken in the Maldives at the time, requiring specialist technical knowledge and careful execution within the constrained urban environment of the capital.
The project further established Alcazar as a specialist contractor for complex excavation, shoring and below-ground construction works.
2018
Alcazar Private Limited
With a growing portfolio, expanding equipment base and increasing demand for its specialist services, Alcazar Private Limited was formally established in 2018.
The company was formed to build on the founders' experience and provide specialist demolition, deconstruction, civil and construction services through a dedicated professional organisation.
2019
A new approach to controlled deconstruction
Alcazar undertook the controlled deconstruction of the MNDF Coast Guard Building in Malé, one of the company's most technically distinctive early projects.
Located on a major commercial street and within a highly restricted area near the Presidential Palace, the works required detailed planning around safety, access, security, traffic and continuous material removal.
Following an assessment of the building and proposed methodology, a small excavator was lifted by crane onto the structure and used to progressively deconstruct the building from the top down with precision.
Demolition material was removed continuously from the site, transferred directly to vessels and transported to Thilafushi for disposal.
The project demonstrated Alcazar's ability to develop project-specific construction methodologies where conventional demolition methods were not practical.
2020
Expanding into building construction
As Alcazar's reputation grew, the company began receiving increasingly substantial subcontract construction packages in addition to its specialist works.
A major milestone was the POLCO Tower, where Alcazar undertook the full finishing works package and completed the works ahead of programme while maintaining the required quality standards.
This marked an important transition from specialist enabling works into broader building construction.
Delivered ahead of programme
2020–2022
From specialist contractor to full-service builder
Experience gained across demolition, excavation, shoring, structural works, finishing and project execution allowed Alcazar to progressively take on larger and more complete construction scopes.
This included residential buildings, civil works and other construction projects requiring coordination across multiple trades and disciplines.
By combining hands-on construction experience with specialist knowledge of local conditions, logistics and construction methods, Alcazar developed into a contractor capable of delivering projects from enabling works through to completion.
2022
Entering resort construction
Alcazar expanded into the Maldives resort sector, bringing its construction expertise into an environment with a different set of logistical, operational and programme requirements.
A significant early milestone was refurbishment work at Huvafen Fushi, establishing Alcazar's presence in resort construction and refurbishment.
2022 onwards
Expanding across the resort sector
Following Huvafen Fushi, Alcazar continued to undertake construction and refurbishment works at established Maldives resort properties including Velassaru Maldives and Baros Maldives.
Working within operating luxury resorts strengthened Alcazar's capabilities in refurbishment, civil works, construction logistics and project execution where quality, programme and minimal disruption are critical.
Today
Full-service construction. Specialist roots.
Today, Alcazar operates as a multidisciplinary construction company while retaining the specialist, hands-on approach on which the business was built.
At NH Kuda Rah, Alcazar delivered the full turnkey construction of new water villas, from marine foundations through to finished, handed-over villas, and renovated the existing water villas and spa. At Maarandhoo Resort in Gaafu Alif, Alcazar carried out the civil and structural works for the full resort, including water villa foundations and marine works.
Alcazar is currently delivering major civil works for Baccarat Hotel & Residences Maldives, the first Maldives property of an ultra-luxury international brand, with the mock-up room, back-of-house and temporary facilities now also under construction. Construction of a luxury boutique hotel on Thoddoo island is also under way.
